Story

We all know what kind of films director Venkat Prabhu can present - cool themes that would lure youngsters. When his protege Pa Ranjith forays independently as filmmaker, he has done his mentor proud by giving a similar movie that is entertaining and catchy. Set around the lives of youngsters in rural areas around Chennai, the Attakathi movie has funny moments to keep you glued to your seats.The travails of a youth who falls in love with every girl he comes across and the rejections he faces have been narrated in a lighter vein. Ranjith deserves a pat for touching upon the lives of the young from the semi-urban areas, perhaps for the first time on screen. He has ensured that the film is no tear-jerker and the scenes drive the story.Debutant Dinesh plays the lead role who is a real reflection of youngsters coming from such areas. He has given his best shot and lived to the adage 'Atta Kaththi' (as his friends call him)- one who boasts of himself a lot and gets caught in situations that are difficult to escape from. Almost all the characters are played by the newcomers and it is the mastery over the medium of Ranjith that manages to extract the best from the team.Dinakaran (Dinesh) is a happy-go-lucky-youngster for whom life is all about friends and romantic escapades. He comes across Poornima (Nandhitha ) in a bus and falls for her. He tries to woo her until she rejects him saying he is like her 'anna'. Though dejected, Dinesh proceeds to another girl, and again gets jinxed. The rest is all but how some funny moments in his life until he joins a college where he comes across Poornima again.She gets acquainted with him again and they become thick pals. Dinakaran tries to revive his love for her. But there is a twist in the story.Dinakaran is the highlight of the movie. He is right there all through the film giving a neat performance. Be it among his friends, celebrating the death of an elder in the locality, boasting himself or surrendering meekly to his opponent in a gang war, he is immpresive.Nanditha is bubbly and energetic. She is homely and gives her best on screen. The rest of the cast including Velu (Dinakaran's father) and Meenakshi (Dinakaran's mother) are tailor-made for the respective roles.

Story

The Varanam Aayiram film designed as a tribute to Gautham Vasudev Menon's father comes across as emotions spelt out in a reserved manner and thereby proves to be a tame affair. One can understand the director's angst at losing a parent, and trying to make a film about the loss, but then the man's (father) enigma never takes center stage throughout the film. Probably the biggest drawback of the film.

The story starts off with a senior citizen Krishna (Surya) getting his hair trimmed in a saloon only to die after reaching home. The news is conveyed to his son, Major Surya (Surya) who is part of a rescue mission. With gritty determination, the young man declares he wants to go ahead with the mission. But the son in him overwhelms the Major that he is and events of his life unfold as flashes in his mind.What a fantastic dad he had had! The story is narrated through montage sequences - the time his father had met his mother in college (as told to him by his mother) and the innovative way he had made known his love for her - his birth and the way he had always looked up to his dad as a real hero - his sister's birth and the happy little family that they were - his peek at adolescence - his misadventures and the moment he was engulfed by the electric sensation of love etc.Surya's adolescent days come across as a breath of fresh air. The antiques he indulges in once he sees Megna (Sameera Reddy) on a night train and his train of thought that goes on in his mind to woo her, gets across to the audience very well.After the interesting introduction, the determined Surya goes to her house to see her. Megna is surprised but then is not convinced that his love for her is true. She reveals her plans to study in America and her preparations to leave in a week's time.The happy-go-lucky Surya does some business and using the gift of being a good guitarist makes money. And then he is off to America, not for a career, not for studies but to win his girl's heart and marry her. They do meet in America and the interesting character that he is wins Megna's heart. An unfortunate incident happens and Megna dies.A reckless Surya then starts smoking, drinking and becomes a horrible drug addict. His parents take care of him through these torrid times. His parents even want him to go away somewhere to find himself and come back as the person that he really is.Surya walks the streets of Kashmir and Delhi and even indulges in daring endeavors like rescuing a kidnapped child. Then the military bug bites him and he joins the armed forces. It is about this time that the director has made maximum usage of his good looks and the famous six-pack ab. After six years in the armed forces, he becomes a major and also has loving thoughts of a girl (Priya played by Divya Spandana) he had known for a long time but had really not given any kind of attention to. Does time wither away the association they had had?

The flashes of reminiscence stops and reality dawns....he is part of the rescue mission now, fighting terrorists....

The earthly presence of his father might have gone away forever....but will always have a home in his heart....probably thoughts that Gautham Vasudev Menon has....

Surya the actor rocks throughout. The variety of emotions he has portrayed is very good and a strong mention has to be made about his good looks and charm. He looks unbelievably like a person in his early twenties in some sequences that require him to be so. Something very few actors can really do.

Harris Jayaraj has rendered a beautiful set of songs with this film. The Background score is good in patches and compliments the brilliant cinematography by Rathnavelu. The cinematographer needs special mention for a refreshing tone which he has infused especially in the youthful sequences.

Sameera Reddy has been casual and fits the role aptly. Simran has garnered all her experience and does justice. Divya Spandana with her girl-next-door looks performs a role that lightens up a depressed protagonist with good effect.One gets the feeling Gautham could have used all of Surya's efforts with a better narration AND with all-round emotions to connect all the incidents in the script which would have made it more interesting

Story

The Paiyaa movie starts off in Bangalore, with Karthi (Shiva) who lives with his friends who try to get him a job desperately. Karthi is a guy who is easy on life and has a 'thennavatu' attitude On one such occasion of a job hunt, Karthi spots Tamannah (Charulatha) while getting down the bus and falls for her instantly.The hero goes to the railway station to pick a friend who owns a car that Karthi and his friends drive. While waiting for his friend to arrive, Karthi sees the terribly tensed Tamannah with her uncle, who mistake Karthi to be a cab driver and ask him to drop them at Chennai.Accepting the travel, Karthi takes off in the black Mitsubishi Lancer along with his guests. When they pause for refueling, Tamannah asks Karthi to buzz off leaving her uncle behind. From here starts the real road trip of 'Paiyya' in full throttle.On Tamannah's request, Karthi sets off to Mumbai, and with a fight scene on their way, Karthi reveals his connection with Mumbai. He goes in to rewind mode and reminds himself of the villain (Milind Soman).On their journey, they encounter people, new locations and the hero and heroine get along well. The car is their home as long as the journey happens.The interval block is centred with an amazing fight sequence. The different angles of the camera capture the thrashing stunts, and Anthony's sharp cuts stimulate the fight sequence for that wild action.

Story

Story Line

Pandiya Nadu movie story is about how comman man turn into action hero and takes revange for his brother. First to enter the screen is not the hero or heroine, but bereavement over a death. The scene simplifies a little when the rowdy who runs quarries against the government norms, Simmakal Ravi, hacks down the others for monopoly.Meanwhile, Sivakumar (Vishal) is a simpleton to highest levels of non violence, who falls in love with Malar (Lakshmi Menon) who is a teacher. The scenes that Vishal and Lakshmi share are cute and lighthearted. However, it is not love story that forms the main thread of this film. When the lives of the innocent Sivakumar and rowdy Ravi get inevitably intertwined with one another's, due to the death of the former's brother, that is where the real story begins.

ADVERTISEMENTSoori Sivakumar's friend has lightened up the mood at even the most taxing and tense situations. Vikrant's cameo as Sethu in the film is a comeback for the actor. He plays the close buddy to Vishal and the scenes where they work hand in hand to impress Lakshmi is yet another entertaining sequence with lighthearted comedy. Loss of such a good ally and his beloved brother transforms the innocent introvert Vishal into a hero seeking revenge, which forms the crux of 'Pandianadu'.
